Week 1 - Introduction of Blogging

Will 'citizen journalist' bloggers replace paid journalist?

Citizen journalists have been responsible for incriminating pictures and footage against the police for example or celebrities. Citizen journalists usually capture most of the footage on personal cameras. This effective way of delivering news has also developed into blogging. Citizen journalists blog news in an effective way as writers focus on the facts which they believe people want to read. Whereas, people feel paid journalists try and enforce ideas and lead people in a certain direction by some particular journalists.

Some journalists feel threatened by citizen journalist bloggers as many journalists have spent a lot of time learning and perfecting the art of writing whereas citizen bloggers haven’t. This may be the case however, citizen journalists are receiving great interests as the blogs are seen as new alternative.

I think that citizen bloggers will not replace paid journalists as I feel people will always want to read news that has come from a professional who makes a living out of writing news. Paid journalists are fully aware of the codes of conducts and know what needs to be checked before an article is printed. Paid journalists have had to learn how to write in order for them to be paid. Whereas, citizen journalists haven’t, so in order for them to replace paid journalists they would have to learn and perfect writing of the same standard of a paid journalists. This I feel will not cause citizen journalist bloggers to replace paid journalists. Citizen bloggers are free in what they post which gives an alterative for people to read as they are less rules and restrictions. I think the question can also be reversed as well whether paid journalists will replace citizen journalist bloggers.
